Manager, Canadian Taxation

We are seeking a Tax Manager to join our Victoria-based team. This is a client-facing position that requires experience communicating financial information in a public practice setting.

Job Description

Performance Expectations:
• Responsible for the delivery of industry specific and technical expertise relating to complex tax issues
• Development and implementation of tax planning strategies
• Preparation of tax election forms required for personal and corporate clients
• Facilitate the development of new approaches to improve processes
• Work with junior team members to ensure proper documentation is prepared for the client and file procedures are followed by applied firm standards
• Preparation and/or review or personal, corporate and trust returns for accuracy and completeness
• Development of team members by providing feed back to facilitate their professional and personal development
• Support tax compliance services delivery for the office to ensure timely and accurate tax filings
• Correspond with the Canada Revenue Agency and provincial ministries regarding client issues
• Research and correspond with team members and clients in response to specific personal and corporate tax inquires
• Keep clients and team members up to date on relevant emerging tax issues

Preference will be given to applicants who meet the following requirements:
• Completion of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
• Enrolment in, or completion of, the In-Depth Tax Course
• 4+ years of public practice experience
• Experience preparing and reviewing domestic tax compliance and implementing tax reorganizations
• Experience working with and developing junior team members
• Prior client-facing experience
• Strong time-management abilities and self-motivation
• Experience working with accounting and tax software (CaseWare/Caseview, MS Office, Taxprep, Sage 50, QuickBooks, Knotia etc.)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

The ability to work extended hours during busy season is required. In exchange, we offer significant flexibility for a reduced work week in slower seasons and/or extended vacations during summer months.

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Victoria-based team. As a Senior Accountant you are responsible for providing senior level support in the planning and execution of a variety of assurance and non-assurance engagements:

• Facilitate the development of new approaches to improve processes
• Preparation of personal, corporate and trust returns for accuracy and completeness
• Development of team members by providing feed back to facilitate their professional and personal development
• Support tax compliance services delivery for the office to ensure timely and accurate tax filings
• Ensuring assurance templates are updated and implemented
• Keep clients and team members up to date on relevant emerging assurance issues

Preference will be given to applicants who meet the following requirements:
• Completion of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
• 2+ years of progressive public practice experience
• Experience fielding staff questions, and researching answers for more complex technical issues
• Experience working with and developing junior team members
• Strong time-management abilities and self-motivation
• Experience working with accounting and tax software (CaseWare/Caseview, MS Office, Taxprep, Knotia etc.)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
